Mount Mercy University today announced that alumnae Mary LoVerde and Pat Marschel have established an endowed scholarship in honor of their mothers. The Lou Schulte-Lois Corkery Endowed Scholarship (Title III) is designed to provide funding for scholarships for worthy and deserving students whose major is nursing, with preference given to students from Mediapolis High School in Mediapolis, Iowa, or Don Bosco High School in Gilbertville, Iowa.

Mount Mercy University will offer an information session on its newest graduate program, the Master of Science in Nursing, on Tuesday, September 21 at 5:30 p.m. in Flaherty Community Room, Basile Hall on the Mount Mercy University campus.The Master of Science in Nursing’s emphases in health promotion and disease prevention focus are the only programs of their kind in the state of Iowa, offering local nurses the opportunity to expand their knowledge and hands-on skills, and benefitting the Corridor’s hospitals and medical field through increased employee expertise.

Mount Mercy College has announced that it will launch new graduate programs in nursing and counseling, beginning Fall 2010. The Master of Science in Nursing program will feature emphases in health promotion and disease prevention focus, and is a 36 credit hour program that can be completed in 18 months. The Masters of Arts in Counseling and Therapy: Couple and Family Therapy Specialization is a 60 credit hour program that can be completed in two years.

Mount Mercy Associate Professor of Nursing Cathy Penn has been selected to present at the American Association of Colleges of Nursing Annual Baccalaureate Education Conference on November 19-20 in Chicago.The presentation, “Got Public Health?” details advances in city planning, sanitation and immunization, and illustrates the contemporary issue of health protection from an interdisciplinary approach. More than 500 attendees are expected to participate in the national conference.
